Verstappen Upset with Red Bull
Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull) complained this Sunday about the strategy employed by his team in the Hungarian GP race and said it was "a day to forget" after finishing fifth and seeing his lead over Briton Lando Norris (McLaren) reduced, who is now 74 points behind the three-time world champion.
"I think the strategy was not correct. I got stuck between several cars, I lost time overtaking... it was a day to forget," stated the World Championship leader in comments to DAZN at the end of the race, in which his pace "was not good enough to challenge the McLarens."
Thus, he said that when you are "not that fast," you have to "maximize the result," but this Sunday they didn't do that, and that's why they finished fifth in a race dominated by the McLarens from start to finish.
Regarding his incident with Briton Lewis Hamilton at turn one, with seven laps to go, Verstappen pointed out that the Englishman "squeezed him to the right," but emphasized that they finished fifth "because of the strategy" the team chose.
"With a car that already had difficulties in the first stint, you can't maintain the strategy," said Verstappen, who concluded by highlighting that it was "very difficult to overtake in the final part of the race due to the track temperature and tire overheating."
