Sporting Cristal draw frustrates Cerro Porteno
Sporting Cristal earned its first point of this Copa Libertadores season with a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Cerro Porteno that saw the home side booed off by its fans.
The Paraguayan host came back from a goal down, scored by Cristal's Santiago Gonzalez, to lead 2-1 after Cecilio Domínguez and Federico Carrizo scored within two minutes of each other to put the hosts in control.
But a stoppage-time volley at the back post from Sporting Cristal defender Rafael Lutiger bulged the net again for the visitors from Peru, who celebrated the point as if it were a victory.
The result leaves Cerro Porteno second in Group G with four points, five behind Palmeiras, which has seven after it maintainted its 100 per cent record with a win at Bolivar earlier in the day.
Sporting Cristal remains bottom of the group, but will be relieved to have broken its duck at the halfway stage of this first phase of the competition.
